Access to online AIAA reports

Please be aware that upgrades to the AIAA website require Internet Explorer users to have version 9 installed in order to view the reports.  This should not be an issue with other web browers.

Users trying to view AIAA reports online with Internet Explorer 9 may find that a message stating ‘only secure contact displayed’ appears when attempting to open a report.  Clicking ‘ok’ on this message may send you back to the search screen, however the report should open on the second attempt.  We are currently working to resolve this problem.

IEEE Business Platform Upgrade Coming 1 April 2012

On 1 April 2012 IEEE will release the new IEEE Business Platform.  While many new features will be added to IEEE Xplore with this release, there are two important items to note:

  • Saved Searches and Search History will be deleted: Due to updates to IEEE Xplore search capability, all existing saved searches and search history records will be DELETED after 1 April 2012. We encourage all users to copy and paste their saved searches into a document so they can recreate the search after launch. We greatly apologize for the inconvenience.

·  IEEE Account (personal account) user name change: After the launch, individuals signing in with an IEEE Account user name (the personal account user name which is used to set individual preferences) will be prompted to change their current user name to their e-mail address. Institutional user names and access are not affected and will remain the same.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

ticTOCS Journal Table of Contents Service

Please note that the ticTOCs service will cease in the next month or two.

If you use or link to ticTOCs we advise you to use the JournalTOCs service instead – http://www.journaltocs.ac.uk/.

If you have created a MyTOCs set on ticTOCs you can migrate the set to JournalTOCs, see:

http://tictocsnews.wordpress.com/2012/02/20/transferring-your-journals-mytocs-from-tictocs-to-journaltocs/

If you were using the ticTOCs API to pull journal feeds into your own pages then we recommend you switch to the journalTOCs API which works the same way – see http://www.journaltocs.ac.uk/develop.php.

If you were using the ticTOCs text.php file to populate your own service we recommend you instead make API calls to journalTOCs for each journal – see http://www.journaltocs.ac.uk/develop.php.

If you have any questions please contact ticTOCs@mimas.ac.uk

Potential problems using eBook Library

We have been alerted to potential problems using eBooks fom EBL. Please see message below…

You may have experienced some problems accessing EBL in recent hours.
A service failure occurred at 12:00 GMT on Thursday 16th February, which caused an outage on EBL. The failure was the result of multiple gross errors on the part of our domain name registrar, which we were able to rectify within minutes.

Unfortunately, the process of the site becoming visible again on all networks around the world is an iterative one; it can take varying times for different networks to recognise our web domain again after such an outage. So, for some libraries the event went unnoticed, while others were unable to access EBL for several hours.

Our systems are all running optimally again. Access to all of EBL’s websites including LibCentral and the Patron Portal should be completely restored for you by now. However, if you are still experiences issues, please follow the steps outlined below in order to flush your DNS.

On Windows XP and older
1. Close all open web browsers and applications on your computer.
2. Go to the “Start” menu and open the “Run” menu. In the search field, type “cmd” and then click “OK”. This will open up the Windows command prompt.
3. At the command prompt, enter “ipconfig /flushdns” followed by pressing the “enter” key. After a moment, Windows will display a message similar to: “Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.” Once the message is displayed, the DNS will be flushed removing all incorrect entries.

On Windows Vista/7
1. Close all open web browsers and applications on your computer.
2. Open the Windows command prompt by selecting the “Start” menu and entering “cmd” in the search text field box followed by clicking the “enter” key.
3. At the command prompt, enter “ipconfig /flushdns” followed by pressing the “enter” key. After a moment, Windows will display a message similar to: “Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.” Once the message is displayed, the DNS will be flushed removing all incorrect entries.

On Mac OS X 10.4 and below
1. Launch Terminal
2. Type “lookupd -flushcache” and press the “Return” key.

On Mac OS X 10.5 and above
1. Launch Terminal
2. Type “dscacheutil -flushcache” and press the “Return” key.

On Linux
1. Launch Terminal
2. Run the command “/etc/rc.d/init.d/nscd restart”

We sincerely apologise for this failure. Needless to say, we are reviewing our domain registration arrangements to ensure that there can be no recurrence. If you have any concerns or are still experiencing problems accessing any of our sites, please email us at support@eblib.com.
