We have been alerted to potential problems using eBooks fom EBL. Please see message below…
You may have experienced some problems accessing EBL in recent hours.
A service failure occurred at 12:00 GMT on Thursday 16th February, which caused an outage on EBL. The failure was the result of multiple gross errors on the part of our domain name registrar, which we were able to rectify within minutes.
Unfortunately, the process of the site becoming visible again on all networks around the world is an iterative one; it can take varying times for different networks to recognise our web domain again after such an outage. So, for some libraries the event went unnoticed, while others were unable to access EBL for several hours.
Our systems are all running optimally again. Access to all of EBL’s websites including LibCentral and the Patron Portal should be completely restored for you by now. However, if you are still experiences issues, please follow the steps outlined below in order to flush your DNS.
On Windows XP and older
1. Close all open web browsers and applications on your computer.
2. Go to the “Start” menu and open the “Run” menu. In the search field, type “cmd” and then click “OK”. This will open up the Windows command prompt.
3. At the command prompt, enter “ipconfig /flushdns” followed by pressing the “enter” key. After a moment, Windows will display a message similar to: “Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.” Once the message is displayed, the DNS will be flushed removing all incorrect entries.
On Windows Vista/7
1. Close all open web browsers and applications on your computer.
2. Open the Windows command prompt by selecting the “Start” menu and entering “cmd” in the search text field box followed by clicking the “enter” key.
3. At the command prompt, enter “ipconfig /flushdns” followed by pressing the “enter” key. After a moment, Windows will display a message similar to: “Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.” Once the message is displayed, the DNS will be flushed removing all incorrect entries.
On Mac OS X 10.4 and below

2. Type “lookupd -flushcache” and press the “Return” key.
On Mac OS X 10.5 and above

We sincerely apologise for this failure. Needless to say, we are reviewing our domain registration arrangements to ensure that there can be no recurrence. If you have any concerns or are still experiencing problems accessing any of our sites, please email us at support@eblib.com.
